1.0 Installation Requirements

1.1 Q: What are the system requirements of CAMagic?

1.2 Q: Do I need to install DirectX 8.0 to my computer?
A: CAMagic starts up the Microsoft DirectX 8.exe each time it runs the functions of Image/Video related. This is a necessary schedule for running CAMagic. The DirectX 8.exe is automatically installed when installing CAMagic with the installation CD. As to the MAC system, the CAMagic function operates in Quick Time 5.0 which is inside OS, so you don't need to install DirectX 8.



2.0 General Information

2.1 Q: What is CAMagic?

A: If you take pictures with digital camera, then you often encounter the following problems: images are badly exposed, flat, dull, color shifting, backlit or the most annoying thing is bad skin color and quality.

CAMagic is an intelligent digital darkroom for auto-optimizing the quality of your photos. Unlike other powerful image-editing software which provides numerous tools for you to edit the image manually, CAMagic can adjust your images automatically. With its proprietary IntelligentCore, it can automatically analyze the content of the images, such as scene analysis, exposure assessment, dynamic range analysis, skin detection, light source detection and a lot of others. Thanks to its IntelligentCore, CAMagic helps amateur photographers look like pros and enjoy the digital lives with its power, easy-use and intelligence.

2.2 Q: How many language versions does CAMagic provide?

A: CAMagic currently supports different languages as: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and French.

2.3 Q: How to import images into CAMagic?

A: Users can import images from hard disk, CD-R or PC card recorder. CAMagic can also import images from external hrad driver by using "Acquire" function through TWAIN interface.

2.4 Q: When saving image, will it cover the original one after the image's quality or size has been modified?

A: By default, CAMagic saves the image with a new title after it has been modified.

2.5 Q: What is the available file formats in CAMagic?

A: CAMagic support images format as: JPG, Tiff-Uncompressed, BMP and PNG. Video format as AVI.

2.6 Q: Can Hi-Pixel generator adjust the image to be over 4 million pixels?

A: The Hi-Pixel generator allows sizing up a maximum of 4 million pixels of the image.

2.7 Q: What is the post-software does CAMagic support?

A: CAMagic's send-mail function supports all the e-mail programs that are compatible with MAPI, there are: Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook 97/98/2000, Netscape E-mail, Eudora etc., and the Outlook Express and Eudora on the Mac system which are compatible with Apple Event.

2.8 Q: What are the equipments required to connect to the load function in CAMagic?

A: The digital cameras which provide the Mass Storage function can be connected to the download function in CAMagic.

2.9 Q: How to use the trash bin in CAMagic?

A: Select an image that you want to delete, and then release the mouse after dragging it onto the trash bin, you can also chose delete option by right clicking on the mouse.



3.0 Glossary of Terms

3.1 Q: What is Intelligence Core?

A: Intelligence Core is the solution to most problems when taking images with digital camera. By constantly learning and self-adjusting through the analysis and recognition of perceived contents, it comes near to the professionalism of image experts. The average users can now easily obtain results that might take professionals long periods of time to achieve without considerable time and effort.

The Intelligence Core has plenty of features to this issue: exposure compensation, backlight compensation, color enrichment, tone enhancement, colorcast removal and color temperature adjustment, crispness enhancement, skin tone adjustment, etc.

3.2 Q: What is Scene Analysis?

A: Scene Analysis is the technology to automatically determine the scene and content with exposure assessment, dynamic range and light source of a picture and produce the image closest to what we see and demand.

3.3 Q: What is Exposure Assessment?

A: The auto-exposure system of a digital camera operates by the CCD/CMOS which sits behind the Lens and consists of a matrix of light-sensitive cells that convert the light into an electric current. These signals are then converted into digital form and passed to the CPU.

When the average user takes pictures, even with a high-priced digital camera, over or under exposure still happens quite often. Exposure Assessment makes exposure errors and faded photographs a thing of the past. Its accurately Tone Enhancement, Exposure Compensation and Correction produce the fantastic results in all kind of lighting conditions.

3.4 Q: What is Dynamic Range?

A: Dynamic range (Density Range) is the ratio between the brightest and darkest recordable parts of an image or scene. With high dynamic range, all image detail is visible without destroying shadow detail. In addition, levels/saturation can be performed on the final image for even better results.

3.5 Q: What is White Balance?

A: White balance is a name given to a system of color correction to deal with differing lighting conditions. Normally our eyes compensate for different lighting conditions, but the automatic white balance feature enables the camera to look at the overall color of the image and calculate the "best-fit" white balance. When taking a still with a digital camera the camera has to decide the "white point" to correct other colors cast by the same light.

3.6 Q: What is Color Temperature?

A: The color temperature of light refers to the temperature to which one would have to heat a "black body" source to produce light of similar spectral characteristics. Standard unit for color temperature is Kelvin (k).

Low color temperature (2000-3000k) implies warmer (more yellow, Warm tone) light while high color temperature (8000-10000k) implies a colder (more blue, Cold tone) light. The color temperature of daylight is about 6500k.

3.7 Q: What is Illumination Uniformity Correction?

A: Most indoor images (especially white board and documents) are of an inferior quality, due to poor close-up, indoor lighting, uneven lighting and reflection. The A&W's unique Illumination Uniformity Correction technology produces astoundingly good results, evenly lighting up the whole of the image, white colors that are accurate to the originals, almost on a par with outdoor photography.

4.0 CAMagic and other products

4.1 Q: Can I use CAMagic with my Digital Camera?

A: Yes. You can download images from a digital camera which provides mass storage compliant or compatible functions. CAMagic can also connect to a Digital Camera which provides the compatible driver with TWAIN.

4.2 Q: Can I use CAMagic with my scanner?

A: Yes. CAMagic can import different driver from Select Source and Acquire to connect to scanner by TWAIN interface.

4.3 Q: Can I use CAMagic with my digital PC-CAM-Recorder?

A: Yes. CAMagic can connect to PC-CAM-Recorder by Microsoft Direct 8.0 when the PC-CAM-Recorder driver is successfully installed.

4.4 Q: Can I use CAMagic with my DV?

A: No. CAMagic cannot connect to DV at present.



5.0 CAMagic and Image/Video

5.1 Q: What device can connect to CAMagic video mode?

A: The Digital Camera or Cam-recorder would be available to connect to CAMagic video mode if it contains the feature as PC-CAM.

5.2 Q: Is there any file size limitation for video recording?

A: Yes. CAMagic allows a maximum file size of 2GB of the file for video recording.

5.3 Q: Is there any file size limitation in CAMagic?

A: The image size is limited to be under 7 million pixels when proceeding Hi-Pixel generator and Whiteboard clean-up. There is no limited file size for video playing.
